Loft bed

We built this bed quite some time ago (Autumn 2005), but I  still  wanted to put some photos on the net. It's not easy to live 2 people in a 30sqm flat, and a loft bed was necessary specially because we have a lot of guests from hospitalityclub visiting us.

First step the foot. It's a branch of a cherry tree that we got from the garden of a friend. The tree fell one year before, and we chose it because we could use the branches for climbing on the bed:



For fitting 2 balks together we made the connections:






For some special fittings (tenon and mortise) Markus came helping us:






When everything was fitting together, came the moment of assembling the bed. The frame lies on bases, which are screwed on the wall. Frame and bases hold together with dowels. For improving the stability we screwed metal corners too:



As you see, we let a hole at the corner of the room, because our wood stove is right underneath...






Now it's been holding 3 years, since November 2005.
